For Admission to MBA, MCA for the year 2008, the Karnataka PGCET – 2008 is being conducted under the supervision of Central Post Graduate Admission Committee (CPAC) for the purpose of determining the merit of both Karnataka and Non-Karnataka Candidates for admission to the First year, First semester of full time (2 years) and part time (3 years) Master of Business Administration (MBA) and full time (3 years) Master of Computer Applications (MCA) courses, in University Departments and institutions affiliated to the following Universities- Bangalore, Gulbarga, Karnatak, Kuvempu, Mangalore, Mysore, Tumkur, Karnataka State Women’s University and Visvesvaraya Technological University, within the State of Karnataka for the academic year 2008-2009. However, the Non-Karnataka candidates appearing for PGCET - 2008 are eligible for those seats available against the management quota of private professional institutions, in such cases where the institutions have surrendered their quota of seats to CPAC.
Eligibility:
Admission to MBA & MCA courses shall be open for the candidates who have passed the Bachelor degree examinations with not less than 50% of the marks in the aggregate of all the years of the degree examinations. However, in the case of candidates from Karnataka belonging to SC / ST and Category I, the aggregate percentage of marks in the qualifying examinations shall not be less than 45%. Provided that for admission to MCA the candidate shall have passed Bachelor degree with not less than 50% of marks with Mathematics / Statistics / Computer Science / Computer Programming / Computer Applications / Business Mathematics / Business Statistics as one of the optional or electives at Degree Level. Provided further that in respect of candidates who have studied and passed one of the subjects specified in the first proviso in the Pre-University Course with 50 % of marks in that subject shall also be considered for admission. However in the case of candidates belonging to SC / ST and Cat-I, 45 % of marks in that subject shall be considered for Admission. The candidates applying for part-time course in MBA must have worked for not less than three years in an establishment and must be working in an organization within a radial distance of 40 KMS from the institution in which the candidate seeks admission.
Admission procedure:
1) The written test will be conducted for MBA course between 10.30 AM to 12.30 PM and for MCA course between 2.00 PM to 4.00 PM on 15-06-2008 (Sunday) at various centers as specified in Brochure supplied with the application.
2) For both Karnataka & Non-Karnataka Students admission will be based solely on performance in written test (PGCET), then followed by counseling for seat selection as per merit.

The application can be obtained on payment of Rs. 600/- ( Rs 300/- in case of Karnataka SC/ ST and Cat-I, on production of documentary proof) in the form of DD only, drawn in favour of the Member Secretary, CPAC payable at Belgaum.

Admission to MBA / MCA / ME / MTech / MArch courses in Karnataka colleges will be done in the following procedure:Government and Aided Colleges:1. The State government has entrusted the Central Post Graduate Admission Committee –CPAC in Visvesvaraya Technological University - VTU to conduct the Post Graduate Common Entrance Test PGCET-2008 across the state for the purpose of determining the merit of both Karnataka and Non-Karnataka Candidates for admissions to MBA, MCA and ME/M.Tech/M.Arch courses of government colleges, constituent colleges of universities, university departments, aided courses of affiliated colleges and seats surrendered by private institutions for the academic year 2008-09.
2. The PG entrance test PGCET-2008 for
MBA will be held on June 29, 2008 10.30 am to 12.30 pm
MCA will be held on June 29, 2008 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm
ME, MTech / M.Arch on June 22.
3. There will be a centralized seat selection process from July 19, 2008.
4. Courses will commence from August 8, 2008
Private and Unaided Colleges:Category – A : 50% of the total intake in MBA and MCA courses in all private unaided institutions shall be filled based on merit using the PGCET 2008 through centralized counseling by CPAC in the Vishwesvaraiah Technological University - VTU.
Category – B : 50% of the total intake in MBA and MCA courses in all private unaided institutions shall be filled by the institutions concerned based on merit either in the K-MAT or PGCET examination or in any one National Level Eligibility Test like MAT/ CAT/ JMET and XAT. The institution concerned can admit students who have taken any of these tests. In this category, the institutions concerned will not be obliged to provide for any reservations to SC / ST and OBC candidates in their quota of seats and also in the fee structure.
KMAT-2008 will be held on July 6, 2008
There will not be any centralized counseling process for the private / unaided institutions for the current academic year. Each individual institution will prepare its own merit list based on any of the recognised PG Entrance Tests for transparent admission process.
Category – C: The Private institutions also have a 10% Management / NRI quota which generally does not require any entrance tests for admission.
A Grievance Cell has been set up by the Karnataka Private Post Graduate Colleges Association in Bangalore to look into the grievances if any received from any candidate / institution.

Want a BArch Seat ? Registration for NATA 2008 Open Now
Candidates who aspire for admission to 1st year of BArch (Bachelor of Architecture) in India should pass the National Aptitude Test in Architecture - NATA. It is a pre-qualification to take the BArch course in any Engineering College or Architecture School in India, including Government, Aided and Private institutions. Hence, if you are interested in selecting a BArch seat through the CET-2008 or COMEDK CET-2008, you need to pass and possess a Certificate of NATA. There is nothing like `One-Exam-per-year’. You can take the NATA any time convenient to you between 1 January 2008 and 31 September 2008 with a prior appointment. But,
KEA has fixed April 23, 2008 as the last date for taking NATA - 2008 and April 26, 2008 as the last date for submitting the NATA scores to KEA. Now there is no hurry. But, it is better to take the exam earlier as you can possess the certificate in time or you make the repeat attempts if necessary. All the colleges offering the Architecture course conduct this NATA.

BE VII semester paper leaks, exam postponed
For seventh semester Mechanical Engineering students affiliated to Vivesvaraya Technological University (VTU), this particular examination got over even before it started.Scores of students from across who had come prepared for the “Heat and Mass Transfer” paper on Thursday afternoon were sent back home from the examination hall.Reason: Question paper leak. It all began at around 1.15 pm, with VTU headquarters in Belgaum received a fax containing some hand written questions. On verifying, it was found that the questions matched with that in the original, prompting VTU to cancel the paper.Exam on Jan 11:.The examination has been rescheduled and will be held on January 11 between 2 pm and 5 pm, sources told.Labels: BE, Engineering, Exams

The Undergraduate Entrance Test-2008 (UGET), conducted by the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMED-K) for admission to private medical, dental and engineering colleges in Karnataka, will be held on 4 May 2008, Sunday. Tentetive Time Table is as under.

Karnataka CET 2008 on April 19
The Karnataka Common Entrance Test-2008 (CET-2008) for admission to Medical and Dental, Indian Systems of Medicine & Homoeopathy and Engineering Technology course will be held on 19 April 2008 as per the following schedule. The CET 2008 will be a one-day affair and will be conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA), the new avatar of the CET Cell.
