Last Date to Apply for MBA, MCA PGCET 2008 extended to June 16

Karnataka PGCET 2008, the entrance test conducted by the VTU for admission to MBA and MCA under government quota in all government and aided colleges in Karnataka is re-scheduled to be held on June 29, 2008. ME, MTech, MArch Admission Notification - PGCET-2008

Revised Schedule of PGCET-2008
Applications are invited from eligible Karnataka and Non-Karnataka candidates for admission to Full Time and Part Time ME / MTech / MArch Courses offered by University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE), Bangalore (Bangalore University), University BDT College of Engineering, Davangere (Kuvempu University), Department of Post Graduate Studies and Research in Mathematics and Computer Science (Kuvempu University), and Department of studies in Computer Science (University of Mysore) and PG Depts, Regional Centres & Extension Centres of VTU & institutions affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University for the year 2008-2009.

How to Apply :
The application is made available only on websites http://www.vtu.ac.in/ & http://pgcet.vtu.ac.in/ along with all related information. Candidates have to apply as below :
• download the Application Form
• completely fill in the same
• send the above with all required documents (all attested photocopies of
documents and not to send original documents)

A DD of Rs. 600/- (Rs. 300/- in case of Karnataka SC/ST & Cat- I on production of documentary proof) drawn in favour of Member Secretary CPAC, payable at Belgaum should be sent along with the Application Form, and all necessary enclosures.

Admission Procedure :

For NON-GATE candidates only:
PGCET-2008 Written test will be conducted on 22-06-2008, Sunday
i) 11.00 am. to 1.00 p.m. for VTU, UBDTCE and UVCE M.E./M.Tech./M.Arch. courses and
ii) 2.00 pm. To 4.00 pm., for PG Department of Kuvempu University and University of Mysore M.E./ M.Tech. courses, at various centers specified in the brochure.

GATE candidates
Candidates with valid GATE score are given preference for admission.
They have to apply by downloading the application form along with prescribed fee; however they are exempted from appearing for the written test.

Admission to MBA, MCA, ME, MTech, MArch Courses in Karnataka

Admission to MBA / MCA / ME / MTech / MArch courses in Karnataka colleges will be done in the following procedure:

Government and Aided Colleges:
1. The State government has entrusted the Central Post Graduate Admission Committee –CPAC in Visvesvaraya Technological University - VTU to conduct the Post Graduate Common Entrance Test PGCET-2008 across the state for the purpose of determining the merit of both Karnataka and Non-Karnataka Candidates for admissions to MBA, MCA and ME/M.Tech/M.Arch courses of government colleges, constituent colleges of universities, university departments, aided courses of affiliated colleges and seats surrendered by private institutions for the academic year 2008-09.
2. The PG entrance test PGCET-2008 for
MBA will be held on June 29, 2008 10.30 am to 12.30 pm
MCA will be held on June 29, 2008 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm
ME, MTech / M.Arch on June 22.
3. There will be a centralized seat selection process from July 19, 2008.
4. Courses will commence from August 8, 2008

Private and Unaided Colleges:
Category – A : 50% of the total intake in MBA and MCA courses in all private unaided institutions shall be filled based on merit using the PGCET 2008 through centralized counseling by CPAC in the Vishwesvaraiah Technological University - VTU.

Category – B : 50% of the total intake in MBA and MCA courses in all private unaided institutions shall be filled by the institutions concerned based on merit either in the K-MAT or PGCET examination or in any one National Level Eligibility Test like MAT/ CAT/ JMET and XAT. The institution concerned can admit students who have taken any of these tests. In this category, the institutions concerned will not be obliged to provide for any reservations to SC / ST and OBC candidates in their quota of seats and also in the fee structure.
KMAT-2008 will be held on July 6, 2008
There will not be any centralized counseling process for the private / unaided institutions for the current academic year. Each individual institution will prepare its own merit list based on any of the recognised PG Entrance Tests for transparent admission process.

Category – C: The Private institutions also have a 10% Management / NRI quota which generally does not require any entrance tests for admission.

A Grievance Cell has been set up by the Karnataka Private Post Graduate Colleges Association in Bangalore to look into the grievances if any received from any candidate / institution.
