What is NEW in this year CET?

Thank god! nothing much new.

In last few years there were a number of changes in the way the CET was conducted or in the way the seat selection process was held. Thankfully, this year there isn't any conspicuous change. It is more or less like the last year CET. However, following are the few minor changes you need to notice:

1. CET Cell has changed to KEA : The biggest change this year is the Name of the CET CELL from Common Entrance Test Cell to KARNATAKA EXAMINATION AUTHORITY. Since its inception in 1994 it was know as CET Cell. However, from this year it is known as KEA and not CET Cell. To expand the activities of the Common Entrance Test Cell the government in an order has converted the Common Entrance Test Cell in to an autonomous body Registered under Societies Registration Act 1960c called "Karnataka Examinations Authority". Now all the activities of the erstwhile CET Cell are being carried out by the Karnataka Examinations Authority and all transactions will take place in the name of KEA. The new avatar of CET Cell continues to function from its existing building near Malleshwaram 18th Cross, Bangalore.

2. No fraud in reserved seats : Another big change this year will be the publication of details of candidates who have selected seats under various reserved categories. After the vacancy round, KEA will publish on its website all the details of the candidates who have selected seats under the reserved category during seat selection process. The details include candidates father’s name, category under which the seat is selected and annual income of the parent etc.. This is to ensure complete transparency in the counseling process. Any one who finds that a candidate has furnished false details can raise an objection or challenge the information given.

3. Rural Certificate is must : The candidates who claim seat under rural category will have to obtain a rural study certificate from the respective school / high school issued by the head of the institution which should be countersigned by concerned Block Educational Officer (BEO) in a prescribed format.

4. Rural and Urban Confusion : General merit candidates who claim seat in rural category should also submit an income certificate issued from the concerned Tahasildar along with the rural study certificate in a prescribed format. 5. The candidates who have studied in few areas are not eligible to claim rural category seat. However, if the place where the candidate had studied from 1st to 10th standard had been declared as a rural area at the time of his / her studies, he / she will be eligible under rural quota, even though the same has been declared as urban area later.

5. NCC & Sports Certificate : The NCC and Sports Special category candidates have to obtain a certificate from the head of the institution where they have studied from 8th to 12th standard, for having participated in the NCC / Sports events and should compulsorily produce the same along with their NCC / Sports certificates to the KEA office on the notified dates. Otherwise, they will not be eligible for selection of seats under the respective special categories.
