This is the New Avatar of Erstwhile CET Cell
The Karnataka Examinations Authority is the new avatar of Karnataka Common Entrance Test Cell. The CET CELL as it was famous across India for about 13 years is now being called as KEA. This change in name will have no effect on you.
KEA functions as usual like the erstwhile CET cell. It conducts the Karnataka CET every year for admission to first year of Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Medical, Dental, Ayurveda, Unani, Homoeopathy, Indian Systems of Medicine and Naturopathy Yoga - courses under Government Quota in Karnataka Professional colleges.
But why is this change?
The Government of Karnataka had established the CET cell in 1994 for determining the merits
of the candidates for admission to various professional degree colleges in Karnataka.
But, with the advent of COMEDK and its parallel entrance tests and admission process
the government CET was limited only to the government quota seats. As a result the activities
of CET cell were reduced almost to half. Whereas, over a period of time, the CET cell
has become a huge establishment with the state-of-the-art technology and a big building.
It has also gained the expertise in conducting the written tests and the counseling for
extremely large number of candidates. In this background, the government, instead of
limiting the CET cell's activities, decided to expand its horizon.
Hence, by an order dated 20-12-2007 the government of Karnataka converted the Common Entrance Test Cell in to KARNATAKA EXAMINATION AUTHORITY. Now, KEA - the new avatar of CET cell can conduct the written tests and counselling for any government or private institutions. KEA functions from the same building which housed the CET cell for all these years.
