Common Fee structure for primary education - Govt. Plans
The Government of Karnataka plans to evolve a common fee structure for Primary Education in the sate- said the minister for primary and secondary education Mr. H. Vishwanath. He was speaking to the media.
Currently unaided and religious minority schools like Anglo-Indian schools think that they are unquestionable and have nothing to with the state policy. They extort the parents with heavy fees and donation. To protect the public from this, government of Karnataka is planning to evolve a fee structure for primary education. Fee structure will be on realistic grounds and different for aided schools, un-aided schools and government schools, he explained.

He also told that, there is a proposal to allow each district  to chalk out its own academic year, holidays and exam schedule, depending on the climatic conditions and social events in a particular district.  The schedule will have to be decided by DDPI in consultation with Zilla Panchayat.

Bifurcation of Bangalore University?
The Academic Council of Bangalore University has recommended bifurcation of the univerity into two separate universities. One University will be exclussively for colleges in Bangalore and other will be for colleges of Tumkur and Kolar Districts. Currently Bangalore University has crowded with 400 colleges under it.

This recommendation will now be placed before the Senet & the syndicate and finally be placed before the government for approval.

New time schedule for schools.. to reduce traffic jams
The state government is considering a new time schedule for schools in the city to avoid peak hour traffic rush, said the Minister for primary and Secondary education, Mr. H Vishwanath. Now the office timing and the schools timing being almost same, there is a huge traffic on the road. If the school timings are changed, then the congestion on the road will be greatly reduced ... is the idea. However, there is a  lot of opposition to this proposal from school managements and parents.

Computer Science for BA, BCom. Also.
To give a face lift to BA and BCom - degree courses, government is planning to introduce Computer Science as a subject in Arts and Commerce sections too. Till now, computer science was a domain of Science students only. The government is now waiting for the report from the committee formed to study the modalities in this regard. The report is likely to be submitted before June 2000.

More seats for NRI's in Engineering Colleges

The government is planning to increase the number of seats for Non-resident students in engineering colleges in the state from present 5% to 15%. It was a demand of  Private engineering colleges, for which they had approached the supreme court - told Dr. Parameshwara, state minister for higher education.

Only 75 schools are preferred!
It is said that there are more than 1500 schools in Bangalore city alone. But interestingly out of these thousands of schools only 75 schools are most preferred schools. Every year, on an average 75000 children seek fresh admission. How can only these 75 schools accommodate 75000 children? Infact total capacity of these 75 schools is about just 10 percent. One can imagine the rush for these schools. Hence there is a self styled system  in these schools - first come, first served and heavy donation,  easy admission

More than 100 schools in the city are in violation of State Education Act
